The Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers and the upstart Lady Rams from Arabia Mountian (2^nd year in existence) both took home championship trophies in the forth-annual DeKalb County Holiday Basketball Tournament.

The Southwest DeKalb Lady Panthers, ranked No. 3 in the Class AAAA Coaches Poll, improved to 9-2 overall after rallying past the Chamblee Lady Bulldogs (8-1) for a 52-41 victory to win the National Girls Division of the tournament at Southwest DeKalb.

Chamblee pulled out to as much as an eight-point lead (35-27) during the third quarter as Jasmine Camp hit for eight points in the quarter. Southwest senior Kayla Lewis hit a pair of free throws and a basket in the final 2:41 to pull the Lady Panthers within 36-33 heading into the final quarter.

The Lady Panthers then turned up the defense and put together an 8-0 run to open the fourth quarter behind four points from Lewis and three big blocks to keep Chamblee from scoring until the 3:31 mark of the period on a pair of Camp free throws. Lewis added five points and Olivia Gibbs added four down the stretch as Southwest held off for the 52-41 victory.

The American Girls Division round-robin title went to host Arabia Mountain with a 56-43 victory over the Lithonia Lady Bulldogs. The two teams went back and forth during the first half before the Lady Rams pulled away late to pick up the new school’s first trophy.
